North 42 Degrees Winery Receives First Ocean Wise Designation in Southern Ontario

North 42 Degrees Estate Winery has announced that they have been named the first Ocean Wise Designated restaurant in Southern Ontario and the third Feast On designated restaurant in the Windsor Essex region.

North 42 and Bistro 42 cares about the oceans and freshwater lakes. As avid snorkelers and third generation farmers, the owners, Martin and Suzanne Gorski dove right in at the idea of supporting the oceans when Chef Cameron MacDonald presented the idea. “Being on the front line of the food service industry, it is our job as cooks and chefs to source and cook product responsibly in order to sustain for future generations. I feel it’s important to not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk” says Chef Cameron.

Ocean Wise Seafood is a non-profit ocean conservation and sustainability program that empowers consumers and restaurants to choose sustainable seafood options that support healthy oceans, today and into the future. It’s not just a question of farmed or wild, seafood menu choices reflect sustainable harvest methods and fisheries.

Seafood Chowder by North 42 Degrees Estate Winery

North 42 Degrees Estate Winery, to celebrate recently being designated the first Ocean Wise restaurant in Southern Ontario, will be participating in the National Chowder Chowdown Festival and donating a portion of proceeds generated through sales of their 42nd Parallel Souper Sustainable Seafood Chowder during the month of February to the Ocean Wise Seafood program. To launch their partnership with Ocean Wise North 42 Degrees is participating in The National Chowder Chowdown Festival (a month long celebration throughout February held across Canada celebrating all things sustainable seafood). Chow down on their delicious sustainable seafood chowder to support healthy oceans. Starting this Friday, February 5, their 42nd Parallel Souper Sustainable Seafood Chowder will be available for purchase with the following sustainable seafood ingredients: Littleneck clams, PEI organic mussels, haddock, scallops, BC spot prawns and Atlantic salmon.

The seafood chowder will be available for $24 per litre or $9 per bowl. It can be purchased hot or cold and comes with a wedge of North 42 Degrees house made bread. (Hot chowder will be available Thurs. through Sun.). To place an order call 519-738-6111.

During the month of February, the winery will donate a portion of proceeds from their 42nd Parallel Souper Sustainable Seafood Chowder revenue to the non-profit Ocean Wise Seafood program in the amount of $10 per litre sold. With the additional purchase of North 42 Degrees’ award winning Summer Chill white wine they will donate another $1 per bottle sold.

The goal is to support oceans that are healthy and flourishing for generations to come.
