Annual EPIC Wineries’ Events From Taste The Season to Vintage Tasting Showcase Windsor Essex Wine Country

5 Annual EPIC Wineries Events, From Taste The Season to Vintage Tasting, Showcase Canada South’s Spectacular Wine Region

Canada South’s spectacular award winning wine region has been a well kept secret earning repeat visits from those who are lucky enough to discover it. However, as wine tourists spread the word Essex County and Pelee Island’s wine country has been getting noticed. Since forming in 2012 The Essex Pelee Island Coast Winemaker’s Association (EPIC Wineries) has amplified the message that the region’s wineries grow some of the world’s finest vinifera and hybrid wine grapes. The area is a winemaker’s paradise blessed with exceptional soil conditions and a regional climate which offers longer sun hours and greater heat units than any other area in Canada.

EPIC Wineries’ annual events contribute to making Essex County’s Lake Erie North Shore a fun wine tourist destination to explore. In total EPIC Wineries organize five annual events which include Taste The Season, EPIC Vintage Tasting, Festival of Ice, March Mac’ness and Sip Into Summer.

EPIC Wineries 8th Annual Taste The Season

EPIC Wineries Taste The Season 2015The next event taking place on November 28-29, 2015 is EPIC Wineries 8th Annual Taste The Season open house weekend. Ten wineries that are participating include CREW, Colio, Cooper’s Hawk, Muscedere, North 42 Degrees, Oxley Estate, Paglione, Pelee Island, Sprucewood Shores, and Viewpoint Estate. Each winery will offer a seasonal food and wine pairing. In addition, guests visiting each winery will discover great holiday gift offers, live entertainment, and fun events.

Michelle Turnbull, sales and events manager at CREW says, “we will be serving both apple and mushroom tarts using products from local farms. The sweet apple tart will be paired with our 2013 Chardonnay and the savoury mushroom with our 2010 Merlot/Cabernet blend. We will also be having a “mini artisans market” with confirmed vendors – Apples & Stix Candy Company, Licia Ruby Food Company (Saturday Only), The Sustainable Dog, and Steel Appeal with one or two more.”

Turnbull also touched base with a representative from Oxley Estate Winery who told her, “Oxley will have live music on Saturday and Sunday featuring The Ohchays. We will also serve complimentary wine tastings and some savoury snacks; Maple Candied nuts with Bacon with our Riesling and Steamed Bun with jerk brisket, ginger pickled daikon and a scotch bonnet mayo with our Riesling Gewurztraminer.”

Colio Estate Winery will serve wine paired with scrumptious local cuisine prepared in partnership with Jack’s Gastro Pub. Guests will enjoy live entertainment by local musician Justin Latam. The Cheese Bar will be onsite offering artisanal cheese perfect to pair with Colio’s wines. The winery will be having fun with their first ever People’s Choice Award where guests can vote on which staff member has the ugliest shirt.

Those attending Taste The Season are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items which the wineries will donate to local food banks.

EPIC Taste The Season Photo Contest

A new addition to this year is the Taste The Season Photo Contest on Facebook. Just upload a festive winter / holiday photo (preferably a “wintery wine” one) for the chance to win a prize pack from participating EPIC Wineries valued at over $250.

EPIC Wineries Taste The Season open house weekend is a fun event showcasing the region’s wine country. For those who are unable to attend this event then the Passport to EPIC Wine Country is an alternative way to take a self guided tour through Canada South’s wine region.
