This original production featuring local youth dancers brings spooky ghosts to life in a showcase suitable for families and children of all ages. Set in a cemetery, the “Gravedigger” rings his giant bell each time he tells the story of each character and how they met their demise. He knows how they all died, after all, as he says, he has dug the graves of every person buried there. They dance around on stage one by one in creative creepy costumes. A dead rock guitarist even actually plays and shreds his guitar on stage drawing the rest of the dead on stage to dance and party around him.

The talented group of youth dancers training under Border City Dance Company, founded by award-winning choreographer Melissia Williams, have independently produced their own solo acts, dance routines and costuming for this original haunted Halloween production.

“They came up with their own characters,” explains Williams. “We told them to choose something from way back in the past, like from the 1800s. They came up with names, ages, and how their character died, all on their own. They wrote the story all themselves, and also choreographed their dance solos, and styled their own costumes. They’re learning not to be just dancers but choreographers, directors, and producers. That’s what makes Border City Dance Company different.”

Characters range from a prohibition era flapper girl, and 50’s diner sock hop waitress, to a corpse bride and old fashioned press photographer. The show culminated with the entire cast bending and jerking in the zombie dance style made famous by Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video.
