If you’re craving flavourful cuisine then Windsor’s classy casual Taza Mediterranean Grill is a great choice for the freshly prepared tastes of the Middle East. Customers will enjoy casual fine dining, value, affordability, and fast friendly service. Warm steamy pita bread baked fresh is served with various menu items. It’s perfect for dipping in Taza’s homemade hummus. Freshness is top priority because this restaurant strives to embody the meaning of their name, “fresh”, as translated from Arabic.
Owner Abe Taqtaq, says his customer’s favourite choices include hummus and fattouch appetizers but the seasoned and marinated chicken shawarma is the most popular. Soups are made fresh daily. Vegetarian selections, such as falafel pitas, rice stuffed grape leaves, baba ghannouge, vegetarian pizza, and Greek salad are available too. A wide selection of additional items include seasoned shish kabob skewers, perfectly grilled shish kafta, grilled lamb chops, AAA striploin steaks, stone oven baked Mediterranean salmon, and shrimp and scallop seafood linguine in a creamy blush sauce.
Local fruits and vegetables are sourced from area farmers, particularly the Leamington area, whenever in season. In addition, meats are freshly sourced from area butchers. The menu is relatively consistent but some of it does change a couple times a year to reflect the seasons.
Taza’s newest location opened on May 2012 inside the lobby of Caesars Windsor’s Augustus Hotel. This location provides convenient parking or free valet service and welcomes families, including children, casino entertainment patrons, and hotel guests. They even serve breakfast starting at 7am. Occasionally, live entertainment is booked to coincide with Caesars’ entertainment venues.
(update: Taza’s Cabana Road location has closed as of September 20, 2014. However, customers are welcome to enjoy the Caesars Windsor location.)
The South Windsor location on Cabana Road was the first to introduce a Lebanese style restaurant into one of Windsor’s family neighborhoods eliminating the need to travel downtown or to the Wyandotte street area. Live entertainment is occasionally booked here too. The large fully licensed patio seats 40 people and is a wonderful spot to relax with a glass of wine from the handpicked wine list. The beautiful hand-crafted stone mosaic walls immediately stand out upon entering the restaurant. Taqtaq says, “the back wall mosaic is a reflection of a small Mediterranean village, whether it be in Greece, Lebanon, Italy, or other countries in the region.” The emphasis on a casual friendly neighborhood grill where you don’t have to pay top dollar for excellent service and fantastic food draws in area residents, many who are regular customers. Taza’s convenient quick and easy takeout service is frequently taken advantage of by nearby residents. “The community has really embraced us,” says Taqtaq.
Taza offers offsite catering which is enjoyed at events like weddings and family BBQs. The Cabana location offers in house catering where the back of the restaurant can accommodate parties of 20 to 30 people. Baptisms, communions, and retirement parties are common but any event, from birthdays to business meetings, are welcome. In fact, with advanced notice the entire restaurant with a 70 person capacity can be reserved for private functions.
