5 Crazy Fun Things to Do at The First Annual Woofa-Roo Pet Festival

Woofa-Roo Pet Festival in AmherstburgThe first annual Woofa-Roo Pet Festival promises to be lots of “crazy fun” this weekend August 10th and 11th in Amherstburg at the United Communities Credit Union Recreation Complex. The event will benefit eight different animal charities and raise awareness about homeless animals that would make great pets. This is a great opportunity to meet other pet owners and talk about similar interest. Eyes On Windsor is a proud sponsor of this fun filled festival for pets and their people. So we’ve put together a list of fun things to do in Amherstburg this weekend at Woofa-Roo.

Meet Zeus The World’s Tallest Dog

Zeus, a Great Dane from the United States, is the Guinness World Record holder for the world’s tallest dog, standing 44 inches from the shoulders down to his feet. When on his hind legs he stands 7ft 4in tall! His attendance at Woofa-Roo will be his first and only appearance in Canada. Zeus will be available for a few hours each day for portraits with proceeds to benefit the Windsor Essex County Humane Society.

Howling For Hounds Contest

For 60 seconds contestants will step on the Woofa-Roo stage and howl like hounds. Contestants can enter alone or with their four legged or two legged companions. We expect this to be fun and funny. The crowd can vote as many times as they wish, so if you’re entering bring all your friends and family. Votes cost $1 each. Proceeds are to benefit MotorCity Grey Hound Rescue.

Dog Gone Crazy Fetching Contest

The Woofa-Roo Dog Gone Crazy Fetching Contest is not just for dogs. Humans can compete too! Of course humans can’t outrun those fast canines and they won’t have to. That’s because humans will be in their own category for the competition. The top three K9s and top two people will all win prizes. Proceeds will benefit For The Love of Paws animal rescue.

Ultimate Air Dogs Dock Diving Competition

This relatively new dog sport involves long distance jumping from a dry dock into a pool of water. Dogs get two jumps, called a splash, with the longest distance counting towards their score. Canines really can fly! All proceeds will benefit TailShakers ACC. (providing pet aid to low income seniors)

Parade of Breeds

The Woofa-Roo Parade of Breeds is not really a parade at all. Instead dog breeders from all over Ontario will present a wide variety of rare and favourite breeds. They’ll explain the characteristics of their breed of choice to help you figure out what type of dog is best for you and your family. Expect over 27 different dog breeds.

Of course there will be a lot more to see and do at Woofa-Roo Pet Fest including pony rides, live music, a charity treasure hunt, specialty vendors, artisians, a pet adoption area, Windsor Urban Mushers demonstration, Windsor Police K9 Unit, Border City Barkers agility show, a pet-ucation centre, and Canada’s second highest rated psychic, Dan Vlakos, doing pet readings. Woofa-Roo Pet Festival promises to be lots of fun for pets and their owners. For a complete listing and schedule of events visit http://woofaroo.com/EventSchedule.html
