August 14, 2013 @ 9:00 am - August 19, 2013 @ 8:00 pm
The International Children’s Games (ICG) originated in Celje, Slovenia, over forty years ago. Founder Metod Klemenc’s passionate belief that young people could develop lasting friendships and promote peace in the world through sport, enabled the ICG to grow from its humble beginnings in Europe to become one of the most respected and largest youth sporting events in the world.
His vision and legacy continues to this day. Host cities around the world have welcomed thousand of young athletes to participate in a friendly sporting competition that has served to inspire, engage and enrich the lives of young people.
In 1968, nine European cities participated in the Games. Since that time, the Games have attracted over 37,000 athletes aged 12-15 from over 86 countries and 411 cities. Recognizing the calibre of the athletes and the significant impact of the Games have on the holistic development of youth around the world, the International Children’s Games are now conducted under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee.
Windsor Essex is proud to be part of this fine tradition and is preparing to welcome between 1500 to 2000 athletes and their coaches in the summer of 2013.
Competitions will be held at various venues around Windsor featuring different sporting competitions.
