Songs for a New World by Sam Poole | A Graduation Project
February 1 @ 8:00 pm - February 2 @ 10:00 pm
Songs For A New World, a University of Windsor School of Creative Arts graduation project by Sam Poole, takes place at the Armouries Performance Hall on February 1 & 2, 2019.
“Anyone interested in glimpsing the future of the American musical theater would do well to catch this new revue. …The songs some of them close to miniature plays capture a wide variety of moods, from sweetly contemplative to sturdily inspirational.” – The Hollywood Reporter
“Brown is dizzily, unabashedly confident, and infuses his songs with optimism, as the hummable title song, The New World, suggests. …The revue drifts through a series of gospel-driven ballads, funky R&B’s, drolly funny set pieces and heart-twisting love songs, the lyrics shot through with wit, intelligence, and enthusiasm for life s crazy possibilities.” – Time Out New York
This contemporary song cycle weaves characters and history together, illuminating the timelessness of self-discovery. “It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice… or take a stand… or turn around and go back.” These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County, The Last Five Years), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.
