34th Annual Rotary Lobsterfest 2018 | A Maritime Cod Kissing Screeching In Party
May 25 @ 6:00 pm - 11:30 pm
The 34th Annual Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland Lobsterfest, “A Maritime Party,” featuring a traditional Newfoundland screeching in ceremony complete with kissing of the cod, takes place at St. Clair College Centre For The Arts on Friday, May 25, 2018.
Indulge in succulent maritime lobster, roasted chicken, roasted potatoes, penne w/tomato basil sauce, garden salad, rolls, coffee/tea. Also enjoy live music featuring Windsor’s favourite party band, Big Wiggle, and the Celtic charm of Mark Crampsie & Cameron Rankin. Dance the night away, and take a chance on the silent auction and raffles all in support of Windsor-Roseland Rotary Charities.
AND watch local celebrities as they get put through the paces of a “Screeching In Ceremony” officiated by Veronique Mandal, a native Newfoundlander!
Screeching is a tradition of welcoming newcomers to Newfoundland which must be overseen by a native of the province. The newcomer must kiss a fish on the lips, usually cod, then recite the answer to the question, “Is ye a screecher?” After answering the question they drink a shot of Screech rum and are officially welcomed as an honorary Newfoundlander! Watching this should be lots of fishy fun!
