The 23rd Annual Media City Film Festival For Film and Video Art takes place mainly at the Capitol Theatre in Windsor and Detroit Institute of Arts on November 7-10, 2018.
The Media City Film Festival screens shorts from the world’s top international short film makers. Most of the festivals events take place at Windsor’s Capitol Theatre from November 8-10, 2018.
Opening Night Party in Detroit on November 7, 2018
Media City celebrates its Opening Night Detroit in partnership with The Penny Stamps Speaker Series at the Detroit Film Theatre. Join us for an incredible double-bill screening with legendary filmmakers and feminist activists Carolee Schneemann (USA) and VALIE EXPORT (Austria). The evening’s program includes a unique in-person presentation by Schneemann, and a selection of both canonical and lesser-known films by both artists, including VALIE EXPORT’s Poem films (1966-1980), along with a restoration of Carolee Schneemann’s Fuses (1964-67).
Musical performance by Motown’s Carolyn Crawford accompanied by Rick Jones (Detroit), in tribute to Aretha Franklin.

Celebrate Media City Film Festival’s 23rd edition at the historic Capitol Theatre & Arts Centre in downtown Windsor.
Opening remarks from Steve Polta (California), Julie Tucker (ACWR), and introduction to MCFF’s 2018 International Competition Jury from Sweden, Turkey, and Ecuador.
Share a drink with fellow festival-goers, filmmakers, and guests attending from around the world.
PARTY followed by the screening: Yugoslavian Structuralism introduced by Greg de Cuir Jr. in attendance from Belgrade, Serbia.
Admission is free but a $5 donation / admission is suggested per film to help support the event. Full weekend festival passes are also available for $25. Tickets and passes will be available 1 hour before each scheduled event/screening.
The festival was founded back in 1994 right here in Windsor, Ontario by Oona Mosna and Jeremy Rigsby. The festival originally a regional Windsor/Detroit event has grown to become a globally renowned celebration of films from around the world.
