Johnny Loaring Classic 2018 | Windsor Open Track & Field Meet

The annual Johnny Loaring Classic (formerly the Windsor Open) is a high performance track & field meet taking place at The University of Windsor’s Alumni Stadium on May 19, 2018.
The name was changed in 2017 in honour of Johnny Loaring, who is Windsor’s only Olympic medalist in track and field. Johnny won a silver medal in the men’s 400m Hurdles at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
The high performance nature of the meet attracts runners from all over Canada and around the world to run fast times on a fast track.
Highlights from previous year’s meeting include:
Canadian Olympian Alicia Brown winning the women’s 400m.
Melissa Bishop (4th place finisher in the 800m at the 2016 Olympic games, and 2012 Olympian) opening her 2016 season with a 1500m.
Nick Willis (multiple time Olympic medalist) rabbiting the men’s 1500m, in which 3 athletes narrowly missed Olympic standard. Olympians Nathan Brannen, Taylor Milne, and Hamish Carson also toeing the line in this race.
This year the event will be offering an Elementary school co-ed 4x100m relay. Teams (2 boys, 2 girls) from any elementary school, of any age may register to compete. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Athletes interested in competing must register by Wednesday, May 16, 2018.

Admission for spectators is $5 per person and will be collected at the gate, children 12 & under are free accompanied by an adult.
University of Windsor Alumni Field is located at 2555 College Avenue, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, N9B 3P4 (next to the St. Dennis Centre).
The Johnny Loaring Classic is part of the University of Windsor Athletics Club’s Windsor Athletics Fest.
This year’s “Night Flight” pole vault competition will return to Alumni Field, from 2015-2017 the event was held in downtown Windsor.
Prior to the Loaring Classic, the Running Factory and University of Windsor Athletics Club will host the Mission Mile & 5K Road Race in support of the Downtown Mission.
