The park will stay open all night on August 10, until 2am on August 11, for optimal viewing of the peak of the Perseid Meteor Showers.
The viewing will take place from 9pm until 2am at the West Beach.
Join members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Windsor Centre on the beach and view the early night sky before sitting back and enjoying the meteor shower. Bring a chair or blanket and settle in on the beach for the evening.
About the Perseid Meteor Shower
“Every August, the night sky is peppered with little bits of comet debris in what we call the annual Perseid meteor shower. The Perseids are bits of the comet Swift-Tuttle and often create the most amazing meteor shower of the year,” says Space.com. The Perseid meteor shower will reach its maximum rate of activity on 13 August 2019. Some shooting stars associated with the shower are expected to be visible each night from 23 July to 20 August. Annual meteor showers arise when the Earth passes through streams of debris left behind by comets and asteroids.
