About LiUNA’s Bluesfest Windsor

This world class music festival features the top blues musicians from North America and around the world, and now has diversified to bring in a wide selection of musical genres. The festival originally started in Windsor, Ontario, in 1995 along the city’s main street, Ouellette Avenue. Since that time the festival has grown and now occupies the Riverfront Festival Plaza. Over the years Bluesfest Windsor has grown into one of Canada’s premier Blues festivals!

Since 2014 LiUNA Local 625 has supported the festival through donations of funds, helping to organize the event, providing volunteers and more. In 2016, LiUNA Canada partnered with Bluesfest Windsor as the major sponsor and organizer of the festival. The event has been renamed the LiUNA’s Bluesfest Windsor, the “Feel the Power” Festival.

Bluesfest Windsor was reestablished as a not-for-profit organization in 2014 comprised of a volunteer Board of Directors, Advisory Board and Special Committee members committed to providing Windsor and Essex County with an annual, premier concert festival and a notable regional tourist attraction. Bluesfest Windsor supports and sponsors community charities and Keeping the Blues Alive initiatives for all ages.

United Way Windsor Essex was the main organization to benefit in 2015 and Transition To Betterness in 2016, 2017, 2018, and again for 2019.

In addition, the festival began diversifying the musical acts performing, not only including Blues, but rock and 90s throwback hip hop. While there has been controversy in keeping the festival named Bluesfest Windsor, organizers have opted to keep the name so far. One thing is certain this has become the biggest, most attended, and most popular music festival in the region. As the festival continues to evolve, perhaps keeping the name is a great legacy and tribute to where the festival got its roots!

Join the fun on July 5, 6, 12, & 13, 2019, for the 24th annual LiUNA’s Bluesfest Windsor!
