An Enchanting Bright Lights Windsor Welcome For Cirque Du Soleil’s Crystal

What better place to officially welcome the cast and crew of Cirque du Soleil’s Crystal to town than at Bright Lights Windsor?

On the eve before Cirque’s most unique show ever kicks off, Mayor Drew Dilkens and The City of Windsor, joined by members of Douglas Marketing Group welcomed the cast and crew to town at Bright Lights Windsor.

Thousands of people have been enchanted this holiday season as they step into another world, a winter wonderland of shining light displays at Jackson Park, during the inaugural Bright Lights Windsor winter festival. The spectacular light displays and shows are dazzling, unique, thrilling, and a first for Windsor and all of Essex County.

Thousands of people have been enchanted by Crystal, the first-ever experience on ice from Cirque du Soleil, since it’s world premiere in Quebec City and Montreal this past December. World-class ice skaters and acrobats take their new frozen playground by storm with speed and fluidity as they challenge the laws of gravity with a flurry of unexpected acrobatics. A new kind of enchanting performance that’s thrilling audiences as Cirque du Soleil meets the ice.

Both Crystal by Cirque du Soleil and Bright Lights Windsor are unique, captivating, thrilling, first time ever events taking audiences into a new world of experiences. So the City of Windsor officially welcoming Crystal’s cast and crew to town at Bright Lights Windsor was exceptionally enchanting.

“I think events like these, Bright Lights and Crystal help Windsor shine,” said Julie Desmarais, publicist at Cirque du Soleil during the welcoming ceremony. “Crystal is our 42nd creation at Cirque du Soleil and our first ever ice experience. You can expect 40 artists from 11 different nationalities on skates and on ice with special special shoes doing very unique acrobatics. Crystal is a feast for the eyes with a great story.”

Joining Julie to represent Crystal by Cirque du Soleil was Michael Heiselmeyer, Company Manager at Cirque du Soleil. “The response to Crystal has been great” said Michael. “It’s the first time we’ve done an ice skating show and people are really enjoying it. It’s totally different and cool. The music is good, the set is great, the projections are amazing, and it’s a great group of people. It’s like nothing audiences have seen, I promise that. It’s awesome and we’re very proud of this one.”

Only Desmarais and Heiselmeyer were at the welcoming event to represent Cirque du Soleil. Due to the below freezing temperatures and show set up still happening, the rest of Crystal’s talented cast and crew did not attend the event. However, they did have some representation thanks to Douglas Marketing Group.

Douglas Marketing Group worked with Cirque to market Crystal. “We worked with Cirque and created emojis, avatars, and things like that,” explained Kay Douglas, President, Douglas Marketing Group. “We thought it was too cold out for the performers so we sent some of the avatars out.” Definitely, a fun creative way to represent the performers while allowing them to stay warm and get ready for the big show.

Organizers made it clear that Crystal is a fusion of high speed ice skating and circus acrobatics, unlike any show on ice audiences have ever experienced. “Crystal breaks the codes of the traditional ice show by creating a unique form of entertainment. To reach this objective, we brought together the best experts in their respective worlds. With this new show, the audience will discover the infinite possibilities that ice adds to the prowess of circus arts,” stated Daniel Fortin, Executive Director, Creation, Crystal, in a press release sent out earlier.

“I’m excited,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens, “Cirque du Soleil always has great performances and this show is unique, where they actually do it on the ice surface. The Crystal show is one of the most family friendly events that will certainly wow the kids and be enjoyable for adults as well. It’s world class entertainment and we hope the community comes out and supports it.”
