Angus MacInnes will make his first ever Canadian convention appearance in his hometown during Windsor ComiCon 2017 in August.
Forty years ago in a galaxy far far away, Windsor native and actor Angus MacInnes known to Star Wars fans as Rebel “Gold Leader” Piolot Jon “Dutch” Vander led his squadran to battle against the Dark Side’s Death Star.
It is not everyday that a Windsorite leads an attack on the Death Star but for this Gold Leader it’s a reality. Ultimately, the Death Star was destroyed and MacInnes’s character died in battle during the original 1977 Star Wars Episode IV: a New Hope.
Recently, Dutch was brought back to life when old footage was used to conclude the recent Star Wars prequel Rouge One. However, MacInnes recorded a new voice over to go along with the old footage. Nostolgic and thrilling to fans of the Star Wars Saga.
Windsor ComiCon is pleased to welcome this local Canadian actor and legendary Gold Leader Angus MacInnes as a special celebrity guest. This will be MacInnes’ 1st Canadian convention appearance.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, MacInnes first studied acting in Canada before moving to the United Kingdom to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art landing minor roles for television and film. Soon after, he landed his most recognizable role as Jon “Dutch” Vander.
His other famous movie roles include the washed-up hockey legend Jean “Rosey” La Rose from Strange Brew and as the corrupt cop Fergie in Witness as well as minor roles in Altantic City, Superman II, Hellboy and Captain Phillips. Also a notable television actor, MacInnes portrayed Tostig in Vikings, Lieutenant Commander Walter B. Shannon in Space Island One and Sonny Munro in BBC Scotland series, River City.
“This is a true homecoming for Angus that will highlight our event,” said ComiCon General Manager, Colin Douglas. “As the Star Wars Universe continues to grow with additional movies, this is truly a guest for fans both old and new.”
“Well I’m over the moon for this press release from Windsor Comic Con,” stated MacInnes in a post on his Facebook page. “It’s official! Really looking forward to being in Windsor this summer. Back in the hometown. Looking forward to seeing friends and family there.”
The third annual Windsor ComiCon takes place inside The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor on August 12-13, 2017. Windsor ComiCon is an all-ages event, featuring popular genres such as: comics, sci-fi, horror, gaming, and anime / cosplay.
