During Windsor Comicon 2018 The Canadian Military Mingled With Ghostbusters & Star Wars Cosplayers While Cosplay Contests Drew Impressive Costumes
Pop culture and comic book fans took advantage of the opportunity to put on their costumes and cosplay during Windsor ComiCon, Windsor’s Premiere Pop Culture Event held at Caesars Windsor this past weekend.
Thousands of attendees, many dressed in costume, enjoyed celebrity guests, artists, writers, a wide variety of vendors, a kids zone, and special celebrity panel discussions. Some even took part in costume and cosplay contests.
In addition, several cosplay groups, including the Detroit and Great Lakes Ghostbuster Coalition, and from Star Wars, the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, were popular during the event. In fact, local Canadian Armed Forces from HMCS NCSM Hunter, and the 31 Canadian Brigade Group Army Reserve had a lot of fun mingling with the cosplay groups.
The Great Lakes Ghostbusters Coalition stopped by the military booths trading proton packs, or “neutron wands” as they are sometimes called, for military guns and climbed aboard the military vehicle on display.
On the final day of Windsor Comicon, Canadian military troops travelled to a galaxy far, far away, arriving at the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion interactive area located on Caesars Windsor’s Colosseum stage. While there an epic battle of good versus evil with the entire universe at stake was cosplayed among the groups. While all the participants seemed to be having fun, 31 CBG’s Steve Ghikadis seemed to be the most enthusiastic.
Saturday’s Cosplay contest winner, Michael Reeve, designed and created his impressive homemade Batzerker costume. Even more impressive was his cosplay performance on stage during the competition.
Another impressive homemade costume, complete with mechanical expanding and retracting wings, was Ben Grondin’s Hawkman costume.
The cosplay contest was hosted by Sylvia Ward of Enchanted Princess Adventures, emceed by Dr. Stevil, and the judging panel included Geoff MacDonald (Messiah Complex Cosplay), Rachel Petersen (RayGrey Cosplay) and legendary actor and voice actor Phil Lamarr (Marvin in Pulp Fiction, original Mad TV cast member, voices of Samurai Jack, Green Lantern, Futurama, and dozens more).
The 4th Annual Windsor Comicon was presented by Cartoon Kingdom and a portion of proceeds will help support the Kiwanis Sunshine Point Camp for kids.
The 5th Annual Windsor Comicon is tentatively set to return to Caesars Windsor on September 21 & 22, 2019. However, the team behind Windsor Comicon won’t make fans wait that long because they are planning the first ever Windsor Toy & Comic Expo set to take place at Caesars Windsor on May 26, 2019.
