The “Piana from Savannah” Victor Wainwright and his band the Train thrilled a near capacity crowd at Rockstar Music Hall on Friday March 29, during a concert hosted by the Canada South Blues Society.
The world champion piano player, known for his boogie woogie style blues, performed two solid sets for an appreciative crowd in support of his latest release “Victor Wainwright and the Train”. Nominated for a Grammy this year for Best Contemporary Blues Album, Wainwright played songs from his full catalogue of music and had the crowd up dancing to several of them.
A very animated performer, Wainwright is a treat to see, his energy is contagious to anyone who attends one of his shows. A highlight of the performance was a cover of Louie Prima’s “I Wanna Be Like You” from Disney’s Jungle Book. Wainwright said as a child he watched cartoons like any other kid, but they were the good ones!
