Friday night, September 13 was a lucky night for one Windsor band. The Family Soul played to a packed house at The Thirsty Butler, 1585 Wyandotte St E and performed their new album “On The Shoulders Of… Vol. I” in its entirety.
The band is a horn-fueled 9 piece soul band comprised of some of the city’s top musicians and vocalists. Lead by founder Soul Brother Mike, the band also features former Big Sugar member Kelly Hoppe on tenor sax and harmonica and Halifax born songstress Crissi Cochrane on backing vocals and flute.
This is the band’s debut album and it features a blend of classic and modern soul gems from such artists as Lewis Taylor, Sly Stone, Isaac Hayes and others.
The Family Soul can be seen on stages around Windsor and Essex County including two upcoming dates at Caesar Windsor’s Cosmo’s Lounge October 26 and November 16. For more information and to purchase a copy of the new album visit https://www.soulbrothermike.com/thefamsoul
The album is also available on Spotify, iTunes, and can be purchased at Dr. Disc Records 471 Ouellette Ave.
Opening the show was LaSalle’s singer/songwriter Dane Roberts performing an acoustic set or covers and originals, accompanied by The Family Soul’s Madeline Doornaert on backing vocals. Dane’s debut album Mirrors is available on iTunes, Spotify, and Bandcamp.
