Kennedy Collegiate Resurrects Theatre After 14 Year Hiatus With Little Shop of Horrors

The Honorable W.C. Kennedy Collegiate Institute has resurrected theatre productions after a fourteen year hiatus. Drama teacher Mr.Lewsaw and music director Ms.Barkhouse, along with a cast of nineteen students put on a production of the musical Little Shop of Horrors on May 24, 25, and 26, 2018.

Over three days, six shows were performed, which the Kennedy students and staff can be very proud of. Only two students had on stage experience in a theatrical production, Eleven students in the cast had never performed in high school plays before. The sound and lighting crew had zero experience. The woodworking class involved with set construction have never worked on a huge project like building the set for the play. All involved with the production should take a very deep bow, for they pulled off a feat that many felt would never be seen at Kennedy again.

Chloe Dockrill and Michael Labonte were stellar as leads, Seymour and Audrey. Watch out for Chloe in the coming years if she keeps acting in her future. She was spot on as Audrey, the abused girlfriend of the deranged Dr. Orin Scrivello DDS. Her singing voice was fantastic bringing goosebumps all over this theatre goers body.

In spite of a few glitches, mostly with cues, the actors remembered all of their lines and songs, stayed in character the whole time. Due to a lack of funds, only some of the cast all wore microphone. Despite difficulty hearing those without microphones clearly, it was a production that should go down in the record books as “Very well executed!”
