Great Canadian Flag Project at Windsor Express Clash at the Colosseum lll

Members of the Great Canadian Flag Project, in partnership with the WindsorEssex Community Foundation, are delighted to participate in the pre-game festivities prior to the Windsor Express-London Lightning game on Wednesday, February 3rd at 7:30 p.m. Touted as the Clash at the Colosseum III, this game hosted at Caesars Windsor has become an annual favorite for players and fans alike.

The large Jaycee flag—the pride of the Windsor Parade Corporation—will be at centre court as the Express and their guests pay tribute to Canada and the flag with the singing of our National Anthem. “This month, our flag will celebrate its fifty-first anniversary”, said Peter Hrastovec, Chairman of the Great Canadian Flag Project. “And we greatly appreciate the invitation of the Windsor Express and President Dartis Willis to feature our campaign at this stellar event”

The Great Canadian Flag Project continues to pursue its goal of raising community support and funding for a large 60’ by 30’ Canadian Flag mounted on a 150’ flag pole in Dieppe Park. The enormous flag will be visible down the Ouellette Avenue corridor and from points east and west on Riverside Drive. The total cost of the project is $330,000 including on-going maintenance. Organizers say they have raised $147,000.00 so far. Construction can begin when a further $53,000.00 in donations have been received. Hrastovec added: “Our aim is to see our great Canadian flag proudly flying this year. With continuing community support, we will raise this flag on our spectacular riverfront”.

Windsor Express President Dartis Willis stated, “The Windsor Express appreciates every opportunity for community outreach. We support the Great Canadian Flag Project and look forward to stand tall and proudly with the residents of Windsor-Essex when this flag rises!”

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation is proud to partner with the Great Canadian Flag Project as they continue to seek community support for donations for this project. Originally founded in 1983 as Heritage Windsor, the WindsorEssex Community Foundation is a perpetual community trust for philanthropic purposes. It exists to assist donors’ legacy funds, such as the Great Canadian Flag Project Fund, make grants to support local community programs, and build community partnerships.
