Organizers of the 4th Annual Windsor Essex Celebrity Men Fashion Event have announced the record breaking 14 local corporate and community leaders that will take on the role of runway models in support of the Kidney Foundation of Canada on May 9th at the Water’s Edge Event Centre. This unique event takes ordinary fashion show etiquette and throws it out the window for an interactive evening of fun, comedy, and entertainment.
Local actress and comedian, Michelle Mainwaring returns this year to take on the role of Masters of Ceremonies. Joining Michelle to co-host is Mix 96.7 FM’s Matt Franklin (aka Phat Matt). The duo will have the crowd laughing the night away. The pair introduced this year’s models during a media event held at the Water’s Edge Event Centre on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. “They’re volunteering and freeing up time on their busy schedules, they’re Windsor Essex’s community and corporate leaders,” announced Phat Matt.
As Irish hard rock band Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are Back In Town played the first pair of models strutted out. Both Registered Nurses at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Renal Department, Mike Graber and Brent Vicary were introduced.
Also taking on the role of fashion models are the following:
Jay Marchillo (Radio DJ Mix 96.7 FM)
Gary Archibald (Meteorologist CTV News Windsor
Rob Gyori (President Impact Staffing)
Frank Abbruzzese (President AlphaKOR)
Asaph Maurer (Artist)
Dale Harvie (Constable Windsor Police Service)
Tom O’Brien (Vinter, Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards Winery)
Peter Savoni (Professor Odette School of Business)
Mark Dudfield (Owner Better Blinds and Drapery)
Eric Skene (Strength Coach Body by Synergy)
Dan Patterson (Owner WKND Hospitality Group)
Scott Martindale (General Manager Martindale Windows)
Following the introduction Frank Abbruese told Eyes On Windsor that this is his first time modeling and he is looking forward to it. “We had a quick little rehearsal today to get ready for the media,” explained Frank. I’m happy to hear we have another rehearsal before May 9th. It’s been a lot of fun getting us out of our comfort zone.”
Another first time model, Tom O’Brien, said, “I’m not in the modeling business. It took a lot of arm twisting to get me to do it.”
“We’re also the wine sponsor,” explained Tom. “Cooper’s Hawk Wine will be available the night of the event. We’re going to give a large part of the sale price back to the Kidney Foundation. I think it’s a really great event, it’s a lot of fun, there’s going to be a lot of women here, a lot of good wine and food. It’s a fun night for a really good cause.”
Michelle Mainwaring has been a part of the event since it’s inception four years ago. “We’re doing this for the Kidney Foundation because there’s over 300 people in Windsor living with kidney disease,” explained Michelle. “One of my best friends had a kidney transplant, her sister donated it, and she got me involved. I saw what my friend went through and it’s important to give back to the community so this is my way of helping out.”
When this fashion event was first created, “we really wanted people to come out and have fun,” said Michelle. “So we took away from the standard fashion show etiquette. We talk to our models on stage during the show, we get our women in the audience involved, and every year we’ve seen that part of it grow, the fun, the excitement, the creativity. Our models are always wonderful but I’m particularly excited about this year’s models. 14 of them from so many different walks of life.”
Michelle said that there is some real chemistry between her and Phat Matt and the audience can expect lots of fun and surprises. “There was lots of comedy during the rehearsal but because a lot of it is so spontaneous you never know what’s going to happen. I know we have some things planned that will come off as comical but the most fun and creative things are the ones that happen off the cuff and in the moment.”
The evening will kick off with delicious hors d’oeuvres, mixing and mingling, and a silent auction. The fashion show begins at 8:00pm.
The models will be wearing the latest fashions from Collins Formal Wear, The Running Factory, The Suit Shop Co. Ltd. and Caché Boutique.
