Run For Rocky Day 2018 Features Several Events Happening Throughout The Month of April

The City of Windsor officially proclaimed April 9 as Run For Rocky Day during the fifth and final run on April 9, 2017. While the run has come to an end, the Run For Rocky Legacy will continue for years to come including a number of events starting on April 8, 2018, and running through to the end of the month.

The inaugural Run for Rocky, the very first event of it’s kind in Ontario, and backed by tremendous community support, took place on April 13, 2013. Over five consecutive years the Campana family (Rocky’s parents Nancy and Rob, and siblings Connor and Kirsten) organized the annual Run For Rocky raising awareness and funds in support of Gay Straight Alliances in the school system as a tribute to the late Rocky Campana. At 17 years old Rocky “came out” and struggled with how the world treated gay individuals. In fact, Rocky did his best to support gay youth by talking with all students in schools about accepting others regardless of sexuality, race, religion, or financial status. Sadly at 23 years old in August of 2012, Rocky took his own life. The Run for Rocky GSA Legacy Project and Fund is a fitting tribute to this young man and his memory.

The Run For Rocky Legacy Fund helps to ensure financial aid is available for Gay Straight Alliances in high schools and post-secondary schools, to support youth, parents, and educators on diversity issues.

The Run for Rocky prides itself that less than 5% of money raised goes to operation costs. This means 95% of all money raised goes directly back into the Windsor Essex Community

This year’s Run for Rocky Day will feature several events and fundraising initiatives taking place for the day, the week and during the entire month of April.
