Drew Dilkens’ First Mayor’s Walk And Birthday Wish For City of Windsor

The community gathered for The City of Windsor’s Birthday Celebration and Annual Mayor’s Walk along the riverfront on Victoria Day, Monday May 18, 2015.

This was The City of Windsor’s 123rd Birthday and 9th Annual Mayor’s Walk.

Drew Dilkens, walking the event as Mayor for the first time, continued the annual tradition started by his predecessor. Dilkens, along with City of Windsor Councillors, Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Percy Hatfield, community organizations, and citizens led the walk from Assumption Park to Windsor’s Riverfront Festival Plaza for a big community celebration.

After cutting the ceremonial birthday cake Dilkens expressed his birthday wish for The City of Windsor.

Everyone enjoyed birthday cake, cupcakes, live entertainment featuring one of Windsor’s favourite party bands; Bigg Wiggle, and lots of fun activities!

Before the mayor’s walk Dilkens joined a fun rally in support of The Great Canadian Flag Project at Dieppe Gardens.

Funds are being raised to erect one of the largest Canadian flags in the country at the entrance to Dieppe Gardens, a place where we honour Canadians, those who serve, served and especially our fallen.

As Dilkens said during his birthday wish for the city, he wants to “show Canada and the rest of the world why this community is special.” The Great Canadian Flag Project , Annual Mayor’s Walk, and Annual City of Windsor Birthday Celebration are just a few examples. World class sporting events like the Windsor Essex 2013 International Children’s Games, upcoming FINA/NVC Diving World Series 2015 presented by Windsor Family Credit Union, have caught the attention of the world highlighting how special Windsor, Ontario really is. Of course there is a lot more like fantastic restaurants, award winning festivals, talented upcoming and world famous local musicians, cultural diversity, an amazing arts community, world class gaming in Caesars Windsor, and so much more!

On Victoria Day 2015 the whole city gathered to celebrate it all.

Happy 123rd Birthday Windsor!
